EVs in the Carolinas area
The
Dynasty Motorcars' "IT",
a new neighborhood vehicle. The first dealer in the country to carry it
will be Alternative Neighborhood Transportation
of Southport NC.
The Zappy electric
scooter is a fun way to travel on short trips or just zip around
the parking lot.
This
beautiful Bradley GT was built as an EV by Bradley; it has been
modernized with an Advanced DC motor and Curtis controller, and
is driven by a TEAA member to work in Research Triangle Park.
John Deere makes an electric version
of their "Gator" utility vehicle. Dale Glubrecht took
a specially prepped version to a British sports-car event and
came in second in the autocross. See the

Northampton East High School has converted 3 vehicles, 2 Escorts
and 1 Metro, won an electric pickup in the Richmond Electric
Grand Prix. The vehicles can now be charged by the sun with a
solar photovoltaic system.
Garner
High School's Pontiac Grand Am. The most comfortable high school
conversion in the area, retains the full rear seat and still
has room for the spare tire and jack.
"E-Alison"
is the sister-car to Garner's Pontiac. This Oldsmobile Calais
was also converted by Garner HS, for a TEAA member. Now running
at 120 volts on 8-volt batteries, E-Alison is passed around as
a demonstrator.
Another
of Garner's projects, this 3-wheel 1-seat vehicle is a "Freeway".
Converted from 2-stroke to electric, it now runs on Optima "yellow-top"
batteries.
"Red" : 1986 Fiero, converted
by (then) Solar Electric in 1991, owned by Alternative Energy
Corporation, used as a demonstrator and test vehicle. The car
has logged over 23 thousand electric miles and is on its second
set of batteries.
Specifications: 18 six-volt batteries (Douglas golf-cart batteries),
23hp DC motor, curb weight 3200lb. efficiency: 2.70 miles/kWh,
top speed 76mph.
Chevrolet S-10
pickup, converted by NC Department of Transportation.
Shocker and Shocker II, converted by
the Northampton Electric Auto Team, at Northampton East High
School in North Carolina, winners of the 1994 EV Grand Prix,
1995 APS Electrics, and 1995 EV Grand Prix. Two
vehicles from CP&L's fleet: a Geo Prizm converted by US Electricar,
and a Chevy S-10, converted by Solectria
Porsche
Speedster replica. Built by Vintage Cars of Fort Mill, S.C. 144volt
drive system with a 2-speed belt-driven transmission.
