ARTICLE 1 - DUTIES OF OFFICERS
A. President
The duties of the Band President shall include the following:
- 1. Preside over meetings of the band council and band membership.
- 2. Serve as contact person for the band.
- 3. Arrange concerts in the community.
- 4. Appoint committee chairmen as set forth in the Constitution.
- 5. Generally oversee the business of the Raleigh Concert Band.
- 6. Execute contracts for the Band.
- 7. Sign band checks in the absence of the Treasurer.
B. Secretary
The duties of the Band Secretary shall include the following:
- 1. Record, maintain and distribute minutes of all council and membership meetings.
- 2. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date roster of members; such roster to include the name, instrument played, address, telephone number(s) and e-mail address if available of each band member. The Secretary shall acquire from new members such information as is necessary to maintain the membership roster and shall distribute copies of the roster to new members.
- 3. Handle all correspondence for the band.
C. Treasurer
The duties of the Band Treasurer shall include the following:
- 1. Maintain any bank accounts of the band.
- 2. Handle the financial affairs of the band such as:
- a. Depositing funds received for the band
- b. Collecting contributions from members and acknowledging contributions by written receipt;
- c. Paying of debts or bills due;
- d. Signing band checks.
- 3. Provide reports to the band council at each band council meeting on the financial status of the band.
- 4. Serve as a member of the Finance Committee
D. Band Directors
The duties of the Band Director(s) shall include the following:
- 1. Conduct rehearsals of the band each week.
- 2. Conduct band concerts.
- 3. Select band music to be rehearsed and programmed (suggestions from the band will be accepted subject to the conductor's approval).

ARTICLE 2 - DUTIES OF BAND MEMBERS
The duties of the Band Members shall include the following:
- 1. Attend all rehearsals except in the case of a qualified excuse.
- 2. Notify the president, secretary, section leader or band director(s) when unable to attend any rehearsal or performance.
- 3. Attend and participate in each concert or performance of the band to the extent possible.
- 4. Make any arrangements necessary to assure that music folders are at each rehearsal.
- 5. Promote recognition for the band in the community and seek out new members for the band.
- 6. As a non-profit organization, the Raleigh Concert Band does not require dues. Contributions from individual band members are welcomed. The Finance Committee shall recommend a suggested contribution amount each year to the Band Council for approval. Members who desire to contribute shall give their contribution to the Treasurer.
ARTICLE 3 - DUTIES OF THE STANDING COMMITTEES
A. Library Committee
The Library Committee Chairperson shall supervise the activities of the Library Committee. The duties of the Library Committee shall be as follows:
- 1. Consult with the band president and band director(s) as to the distribution and collection of music.
- 2. Be responsible for maintaining the band library and supervising the library committee, including:
- a. Stamping new music purchased by the band director(s) or band president with the band identification.
- b. Making and maintaining a folder for each instrument and chair.
- c. Distributing new music prior to the rehearsal at which it will be used.
- d. Collecting music and returning it to score order at the band director's request.
- e. Establishing a folder for each composition in the music cabinet.
- f. Transporting and distributing music at concerts or performances.
B. Equipment Committee
The duties of the Equipment Committee shall include the following:
- 1. Maintain the equipment of the band and arrange for transportation of band equipment to all concert sites.
- 2. Arrange for all required chairs, stands, stages, props, etc., for all concerts and performances of the band.
- 3. Maintain inventory control of all equipment owned by the band.
- 4. Be responsible for sign-out and sign-in of any instrument or equipment owned by the band.
- 5. Be responsible for obtaining any special items necessary for certain music scores or performances.
C. Promotion Committee
The duties of the Promotion Committee shall be the general promotion and publicity for the band including the following:
- 1. Publicize each concert or performance through the media including newspapers, radio, cable, television and the band website.
- 2. Prepare radio and television spot announcements and assure that these are distributed to the appropriate individuals and radio or television stations.
- 3. Develop posters or publicity materials and distribute information for maximum exposure of the band.
- 4. Generally publicize the band, membership and attractions.
D. Finance Committee
The duties of the Finance Committee shall be the general planning of the band's finances and financial management including:
- 1. Soliciting funds for the support of the band.
- 2. Developing an annual operating budget for submittal to the Band Council.
- 3. Preparing applications for grants from public agencies or private groups.
- 4. Recommending long-range financial plans to the Band Council.
- 5. Recommending a suggested member contribution amount each year to the Band Council.
- 6. Evaluating requests from members or officers for equipment purchases and recommending a course of action to the Band Council.
E. History Committee
The duties of the History Committee are to maintain a written history of the band's activities including:
- 1. Preserving band concert programs, published articles from news media, and other items pertinent to concert activities.
- 2. Maintaining a photographic record of band concerts and activities.
- 3. Maintaining a band scrapbook.
F. Electronic Communications Committee
The duties of the Electronic Communications Committee are to create and maintain the band's web site, including:
- 1. Updating the web site with current concert and rehearsal schedules and locations.
- 2. Maintaining the e-mail roster of the band members and making all members aware of the web site and e-mail list availability.
- 3. Promoting the use of electronic media for communication among members and as a means of publicizing the band's activities.

ARTICLE 4 - DUTIES OF NON-PERFORMING COMMUNITY MEMBERS
The duties of Non-Performing Community Members shall be to advise and support the Raleigh Concert Band including the following:
- 1. Attend scheduled meetings of the band council.
- 2. Serve as liaison to the non-performing public.
- 3. Promote the Raleigh Concert Band through ticket sales, attendance at concerts and other appropriate ways.
- 4. Advise the Raleigh Concert Band and the band council on fund-raising, grant-writing and increasing community support.
ARTICLE 5 - SECTIONS
Sections in the Raleigh Concert Band are:
- Flutes/Oboe
- Clarinets
- Saxophones/Bassoons
- Trumpets/Cornets
- French Horns
- Low Brass (Trombones, Baritones, Tuba)
- Percussion
Each section shall choose a leader from the players. The section leader may be any player with a desire to foster teamwork and improvement of the section, and who is able to attend most rehearsals and concerts.
Section leaders should be designated by the first Wednesday rehearsal in February of each year and are expected to serve through the final performance in December of that year.
The duties of a Section Leader include the following:
- a. Be the spokesperson for the section in discussions with band director(s) about issues concerning the section.
- b. Be aware of attendance prior to and for upcoming concerts.
- c. Assign players to parts on a rotating basis so that all parts are covered and persons have the opportunity to play first parts.
- d. Work with the band director(s) to determine the need for section rehearsals and organize such rehearsals.
- e. Work with new members to incorporate them into the band in a relaxed and comfortable way.
- f. Help foster a spirit of teamwork and musical improvement.
