Tobacco Planting Day, 9:00am-12:00pm, Duke Homestead, 2828 Duke Homestead Road. Join the staff in transplanting tobacco seedlings and help start the site's yearly tobacco field. Duke Hometead, a National Historic Landmark and State Historic Site, is the farm where Washington Duke began the tobacco business that grew into the American Tobacco Company. FREE. Film Premiere: Upbuilding Whitted, 7:00pm, Center for Documentary Studies, 1317 W. Pettigrew St. The new documentary film Upbuilding Whitted explores the meaning and significance of the long-abandoned Whitted school building, Durham's first African-American high school, through the eyes of former students, teachers and community leaders.
