Historic Preservation

Although the Page-Walker Arts & History Center has been saved, the Friends have not lost sight of their preservation goals. The Friends continue to partner with Capital Area Preservation and the Town of Cary Planning Department in their ongoing efforts to preserve Cary's heritage.

In 2001, a large portion of Cary's downtown was designated as a National Register of Historic Places historic district. Celebrating the first anniversary of that event, in April 2002, The Friends of the Page-Walker hosted Capital Area Preservation's Spring Landmarks Tour, which featured 15 historic structures in downtown Cary.

Currently the Friends are focusing on efforts to designate additional historic areas and historic sites, as well as efforts to institute protective covenants and to carry out the historic aspects of Cary's Open Space Plan.
