Administration and Announcements
President Bill Anderson opened the
meeting. Members introduced.
Yard Waste – One problem is inconsistent information (can’t use the
green bins but they are still being emptied, people don’t know they can get rid
of hurricane debris for free, not being told that sticks need to be tied). There is incomplete accounting since some
people have more trees than yard to compost the leaves, there are thousands of
people who haven’t bought stickers and cost of cleaning up illegal dumping can
be more than brought in from fees. Two
solutions that may be more cost-effective for some neighborhoods are engaging
TROSA to bring their leave-gobbling truck and use the
Amendment One – It gives a way to make public contribution to economic
development projects in between bonds and Certificates of Participation. There is mandate for public participation in
the decision, and a state organization has to say the proposal is financially
sound. Bonds passed have not necessarily
been well managed. Finally is a choice
between whether you think this mechanism will be a license for local
governments to do dumb things or a good way to bring in good jobs.
Newsletter – We could do a newsletter and distribution like last year,
which would cost about $1000. We do have
some time-sensitive material on the UDO.
If we were going to spend some publicity money, the sense was to:
§
Improve
the website so we can put reports and documents up on it
§
Create
a 1-page brochure that we can print off a few of when we need some.
§
Start
having issue-based reports or briefings, where we might send out a 2-page executive
summary but have the full report just available on the website.
November / December Meetings – Pat will check whether the
church meeting hall is available November 30 (a fifth Tuesday).
§ Hero Awards were wonderful.
§ Having neighborhoods decide when to hold Halloween has worked OK in some neighborhoods, but some neighborhoods don’t have organization to decide and some neighborhoods could be divided by the decision.
§ City is going to be serious about merit-based pay, so get an e-mail out on people who have been helpful or less than helpful.
Elections – The Nominating Committee twisted arms and produced the
following slate so far.
President: Bill Anderson President-Elect:
Mike Woodard
Past President: Cheryl Sweeney Treasurer: Randy
Pickle
Secretary: Pat Carstensen Newsletter: ??
At-Large: Jaqueline Oleck and ??
The meeting was adjourned.
