John Dagenhart called the meeting to order at 7:10.
The minutes for June were approved as corrected.
Nominating committee:
Fred Mowry, Carry Mowry, John Compton, and Jennifer Albright agreed to serve as a nominating committee for the up-coming INC elections. Their job is not so much to nominate candidates as to persuade members to run for office.
PAC redistricting:
There was a continuation of a discussion started at the last INC meeting about the creation of a new PAC (Partners Against Crime) district, District 5. This district covers the downtown area and incorporates parts of PACs 1-4.
Jim Emery, who introduced the subject last month, complained that neighborhoods had not been consulted in redrawing the PAC lines. He said that the creation of the new PAC was driven by a group of downtown merchants. Cheryl Sweeney remarked that the PAC boundaries also coincide with fire, EMS, and other administrative boundaries, and that this makes it difficult to change them. John Dagenhart suggested he write a letter to appropriate officials expressing INC's concern that the integrity of neighborhoods be considered. Pat Carstensen urged the need to get neighborhood boundaries included in the Durham GIS database, so public officials will know where they are.
Other new business:
· John Dagenhart passed out a written report on INC's past year. He suggested several issues for future attention, including better enforcement of the noise ordnance.
· Mike Shiflett reported that letters will go out next week to exhibitors at the Neighborhood Summit (Saturday, Oct. 21). He is still looking for volunteers to help with the summit.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25.
