PRESIDENT'S UPDATE
September 2008

It finally feels like fall in West Virginia:  upper 70's during the day and low 50's at night.  Winter can't be too far away!  While it's too early to snow in the southeast, Crescent has been busy preparing for the upcoming season.

TRIPS

Steamboat Race & Ski Camp:  December 6 - 13, 2008
Big Sky,Montana:  January 17 - 24, 2009
Keystone, CO
:  March 14 - 21, 2009

Crescent was able to hold Big Sky lodging through early October, but the deadline for releasing unneeded lodging is rapidly approaching.  Please stress the importance of registering for this trip NOW!  It's a great mountain, and the Huntley Lodge is an excellent facility.

First deposits for Keystone were due September 1st.  Ski.com says it hasn't heard from many clubs yet.  Kanawha has almost thirty going, and ETMM has a few.  Surely a lot of your members want to ski in late winter/early spring.  Remember, the lift tickets are good for all of the mountains in the Vail system, including up to two days at Vail!

The last update that I received about Steamboat, which was a couple of weeks ago, listed 302 registrants for that trip. Information about all of the trips is contained in CSC's web site.  I know the economy is faltering, and airfare and luggage costs just keep climbing, but don't let that deter your members from taking these trips.  Odds are very good that the prices will be even higher next year!

CONVENTIONS

Fall Conference is scheduled for October 31 - November 2, 2008, in Gatlinburg, TN.  The deadline for hotel registrations is October 10th.  After that, there is no guarantee of room availability.  Deadline for meeting and party registration is October 17th.  Per Michelle, there were only ten individuals registered earlier this week.

EVERYONE attending must submit a registration form so that an accurate count of attendees can be obtained for planning purposes.  Don't forget that a BOD meeting will be held that weekend.  It's important that all clubs attend.  Conference information is contained in www.crescentskicouncil.org, under Conventions.

RACING

Just another reminder that all race directors and race workers are required to attend their respective meetings at the Fall Conference.  Also, please promote the new Terrain Park competition to your members.  It should be a great way to attract the "younger generation".  If you have any questions about the competition, contact Ron Scott, Racing Chair, at RSCOTT013@NC.RR.COM.

 MEMBER SERVICES

Bruce McMurray, Database Administrator, Cindy Duke,  Directory Editor, and Ken Lumsden, Member Services Chair, have been busy preparing the yearly Crescent Directory.  It will be available at the Fall Conference.

Standard Reminder:  Keep Bruce McMurray, snowdawgasoc@bellsouth.net, informed of your changes in officers, committee chairs, and email addresses.  If his information is wrong, EXCOMM's listings are wrong, and data is not disseminated properly.  Also, the Crescent Directory will be distributed at the fall conference, and we really want it to contain accurate information!  Based upon the email traffic that I have seen in the past few weeks, clubs are not doing a good job of providing information to Bruce.  Ken is working hard with everyone to ensure the directory is accurate, but he shouldn't have to contact clubs individually.  It's a lot of additional work that should be unnecessary.

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES

I'm working on lots of little things, but nothing exciting or glamorous.  Since the Fall Conference will be the last weekend in October and all clubs should be represented at the meetings, I don't plan to issue a President's Update for October. Enjoy October's beauty and have a safe trip to the conference.  I'll see you there!
