I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving and is now ready for ski season.  We finally had our first snow in West Virginia yesterday.  It didn't last long, but at least it's a start.  I guess we'll have really cold weather eventually, but all that really matters is that it is cold and snowy wherever we go skiing!  Which leads me to ......... 
  
TRIPS

 

Steamboat Race & Ski Camp:  December 5 - 12, 2009 

Whitefish, Montana:  January 16 - 23, 2010

Many of our members are headed to Steamboat next weekend.  This always is a great way to start the ski season.  Crescent has asked the trip's participants to complete an Emergency Medical form and place it in a sealed envelope that will be opened only if that individual is unable to communicate with emergency and hospital staff.  Councils and clubs around the country have found a real need for this information, and its only purpose is to perhaps save a life.  Please encourage your members to complete the form. 
 
Whitefish is selling well, and its web site reports a 30" base.  This will be a great trip!  If anyone in your club is interested in having a great time with approximately 150 other Crescent members, have them or preferably your club trip coordinator contact Sara Clemons (Ford) at Sports America Tours ASAP (TEL: 800-876-8551 ext. 109, sara@sportsamerica.com).
 
The results of the Trips Committee votes for the 2011 trips are final:  Taos, New Mexico (January 2011) and Ogden, Utah - Snow Basin & Powder Mountain (March 2011).  Details of both trips will be provided at CSC's Spring Convention.
  

CONVENTIONS

 

Members are just gearing up for ski season, but it's not too early to think about the annual spring convention.  It will be held at Kingston Plantation, North Myrtle Beach, SC, April 22 - 25, 2010.  Club registration and lodging forms are posted under Conventions on CSC's web site.  Several clubs already have submitted their registrations and claimed all of the 3 night / 2 bedroom condos in Brighton Towers.  Michelle Shuford, Conventions Chair, is maintaining a wait list for that facility.  Plenty of spaces are still available in the villas.  Please let your club members know that this is for everyone!!!  Market it like a Weekend getaway!!!  It really is a lot of fun, and it's a great way to interface with vendors (resorts, tour operators, etc.), as well as socialize with everyone in Crescent.

 

Fall Conference 2010 is scheduled for October 29 -31, 2010 at the Glenstone Lodge, Gatlinburg, TN.

 

RACING

 

The newsletter credit sheets for this year's race season, in PDF format, have been distributed to each club's race director.  Please ensure that the sheets have been passed along to your newsletter editor and that they understand the importance of placing a different page in the newsletter each month.

 

MEMBER SERVICES
  
The annual Newsletter competition held at the Spring Convention has been discontinued.  Most of the clubs have moved to an electronic newsletter or have found other electronic means of routinely communicating with their members.  Web site and scrapbook judging will continue, and competition is expected to remain fierce.
 
The Crescent directory distributed at the 2009 Fall Conference was the last one that will be published the old-fashioned way - on paper.  Future directories will be published only in electronic format.  Also, ExComm is looking at developing a password-protected system (t.b.d.) to permit access to people’s contact  information.
  
ADMINISTRATIVE
 

Clubs should be receiving their yearly dues invoices within the next few days.  If you have not received yours by December 4th, please contact Rod Davis, CSC Treasurer, at rod.davis@nc.rr.com and copy me.  Per Crescent's bylaws, yearly membership dues must be paid no later than December 31st of the current year.  Please be sure to mail your payment to Rod by the deadline.  His address is 105 Culcross Court, Cary, NC 27513-4939.

 
To those of you going to Steamboat - Have a great time!  For the first time in ages, Gary and I aren't going.  We'll be thinking about you every day though and will miss seeing  everyone, including the great staff at Steamboat.  Say hi to all for us.   To everyone - Have a wonderful Christmas holiday!  I hope you enjoy it thoroughly!  And always think snow, snow, snow!!!
