PRESIDENT'S UPDATE
March 2010

Hi Everyone!

I hope you've had a great ski season!  While most of us are cleaning and storing ski gear, a few of you are still skiing.  I hope Mother Nature cooperates and that you have a great ski adventure.  A wrap-up of the past season, along with all the spring activities, is in order.

TRIPS

Crescent sponsored two trips this past season:  December's Ski and Race Camp at Steamboat and the January trip to Whitefish, Montana.  Both were excellent trips!  Thanks to everyone who organized and/or participated in the trips!  If you didn't go, you need to start planning to participate in next year's trips.  Planning for the 2010 - 2011 trips to Steamboat, Taos NM (January), and Ogden, Utah ((Snow Basin / Powder Mountain) (March)) are well underway, and details will be provided at the Spring Convention Trips meeting.  Preliminary steps in selecting 2011 - 2012 destinations will occur at that meeting also.  Please make sure your club is represented at that meeting, preferably by either your trips officer or president.

CONVENTIONS

The Spring Convention (April 22 -25) is less than a month away, and Michelle Shuford and Bryan Bobo, as well as others who have volunteered to help, are feverishly working to make it another top notch convention.  The theme for this year's Saturday night party is "Mardi Gras";  just think purple, green, and gold!  Faith Campbell, our extraordinary party planner from Coastal Ski & Outing, does an incredible job of decorating for Crescent's parties.  Last year's 40th was wonderful, but Faith wore herself out!  She really needs our assistance with the decorating and clean-up.  Michelle is going to assign clubs to assist Faith this year.  Faith says all the decorations will be disposable so it shouldn't be difficult duty.  Don't forget about the web site and scrapbook competitions, golf, tennis, and Beach Olympics, as well as the trade show and parties.  Check Crescent's web site for details;  all registration forms are on the site and can be downloaded.  I hope your members have taken advantage of the great rates offered by Kingston Plantation.  If anyone still needs to register, please contact your club's coordinator for this trip immediately;  coordinators can contact Michelle at skibumlong@aol.com.  Please remember that there are various deadlines and late fees associated with missing them.  The last deadline is the rooming list updates, which are due April 12th.   CSC doesn't like to impose late fees, but Michelle and Bryan have to meet deadlines also, and without clubs timely submission of required information, it is really difficult for Michelle and Bryan to do so.  All late fees need to be paid before the Sunday BOD meeting;  otherwise, clubs in arrears can't vote on any motions at the meeting.

 RACING

Crescent's race season is officially over and what a strange season it was.  Two race weekends were canceled because there was TOO MUCH snow, and the Sunday races at Crescent Cup weren't run because Silvercreek had no electrical power!  Here are the results of the abbreviated season:

MEMBER SERVICES

Crescent has discontinued publication of a paper copy of the CSC directory.  Nevertheless, CSC still needs clubs to ensure that their contact information is complete and accurate, especially after clubs hold elections.  Please contact CSC Database Coordinator, Bruce McMurray, at snowdawgasoc@bellsouth.net with any changes.  Information in the (non-published) directory will be available to authorized members of the clubs by request to Bruce.  Directory information will not be posted on CSC's web site.

Newsletter competition is no longer being held at the Spring Convention because most clubs now rely almost exclusively on various forms of communications via the internet.  The web site and scrapbook competitions still are being held; competition applications are on CSC's web site.  CSC Webmaster, Sue Chadwick, has lined up a professional web site consultant to judge the clubs' sites.  Whether you win or place, you will receive valuable feedback about your site. Finally, thanks to Chuck Young (Raleigh) for his excellent photography work at the CSC races and other events this past year.  His handiwork will be shown at the Spring Convention Saturday night party.  Clubs wishing to receive copies of his photos may request them from Chuck at youngcr@us.ibm.com.

ADMINISTRATIVE

Crescent officers will be elected at the Spring Convention BOD meeting.  To date, nominees are:  Margaret Crum (President), Pat Harvey (VP), Rod Davis (Treasurer), and Ruth Pollow (Secretary).  With the exception of Ruth, all of the nominees are current Crescent officers.  Nominations can be accepted up to the time BOD votes.  If anyone in your club is interested,  please contact Margaret Jordan, Past President, at magjordan@msn.com. Rod advises that all clubs have paid their dues.  Thanks for getting that done quickly. Don't forget that clubs can't miss two consecutive BOD meetings.  If your club wasn't represented at the fall conference, make sure that someone from your club attends the meeting at the spring convention.  It is not sufficient to merely attend the convention;  at least one club member must be at the Sunday morning BOD meeting. That's it for March.  I hope to see you at the convention!
