PRESIDENT'S UPDATE
FEBRUARY 2008

Alice Taylor, President
Crescent Ski Council
luvs2ski@verizon.net

As ski season winds down, I hope some of you still have great trips planned.  I'm just skiing in West Virginia now, and Mother Nature and Ullr have not been cooperating much.  Could our failure to hold Ullrfest this year have ticked them off?  As always, there is plenty of work involved in keeping Crescent running smoothly;  here's the latest.

TRIPS

Plans continue for the 2008 - 2009 season.  The 25th anniversary of the Steamboat Ski and Race Camp will take place
December 6 - 13, 2008.  In 2009, there will be two Crescent week-long trips:  Big Sky, Montana (January) and Keystone, CO (March).  Lisa Beregi, Trips Chair, sent an email to Trip Leaders on February 21st, asking for information regarding clubs interest in those trips and a possible summer trip to the southern hemisphere in either 2009 or 2010.  Be sure to get that information to her.

The final Crescent winter trip is at Silver Creek, WV, March 7-9.  Linda Redd, lindaelkview@aol.com, is its coordinator.  If you have any questions, contact her ASAP.

CONVENTIONS

The Spring Convention will be held at Kingston Plantation,
North Myrtle Beach, SC, April 24 - 27, 2008.  Several clubs have already signed up, and all Brighton Tower 2-bedroom units for both 2 and 3 nights are booked.  Please remember to adhere to deadlines;  it makes Michelle's life less stressful.  Confirmation and deposit deadline is March 1st;  rooming list and condo drop date is March 17th.  Lodging and tennis tournament information is available on the Crescent website.  Golf, website competition, newsletter competition, and the schedule should be posted soon.  If anyone has a really good idea for the theme of Saturday night's party, let Michelle Shuford know.  You can reach her at skibumlong@aol.com

RACING

One hundred fifty Crescent racers enjoyed the regular season final races at
Sugar Mountain this past weekend.  In the Eastern Division, Raleigh placed first, Winston-Salem placed second, and Greensboro placed third.  In the Western Division, East Tennessee Mogul Mashers placed first, Asheville placed second, and Spartanburg placed third.  The Crescent Cup race will be held March 7-9 at Silver Creek, WV.

Crescent members are taking advantage of the Subaru VIP program.  If you have any questions concerning the Subaru VIP program, contact your Crescent Race Director.

MEMBER SERVICES

Bruce McMurray,
Augusta, has officially assumed responsibility for administration of Crescent's database.  Be sure to send him any updates to your board of directors at snowdawgasoc@bellsouth.net.  It is critical that the clubs keep their information current.  EXCOMM uses the database for many purposes, and if your data is wrong, information is distributed incorrectly.

ADMINISTRATIVE

Crescent officers will be elected at the Spring Convention BOD meeting.  I encourage everyone to become more active in Crescent and volunteer for an office or committee position.  If you are interested in running for office or assisting a committee, please contact Margaret Jordan, Past President, at magjordan@msn.com.  Deadline for submitting names is
March 15, 2008.

Two individuals in Crescent with graphic design skills are working on a new Crescent logo.  I've seen a few of their ideas, and they look great!  When they are satisfied with their handiwork, I'll forward them to EXCOMM for final selection.

Last month's update explained the origins of the President's Update and the importance of distributing it to members through email or a posting on your club web site.  That generated a lot of email responses.   Several of you thought it should be posted on Crescent's web site.  Well, we listened, and the update will be posted monthly on Crescent's home page.  January's is there now.  Please advise your members to look for it.

This next item isn't really administrative, but I don't have any good place to put it.  A USSA junior racing team calls Snowshoe, WV home.  Its members come from the rural counties in southern WV and even from Charleston, which is over three hours from Snowshoe.  The team learned that Crescent is going to be at Silver Creek / Snowshoe at the same time that it is holding a fundraiser.  Since Crescent has a huge racing program, the team thought we might be sympathetic to its cause and asked me to pass along the following information:

           - Function will be March 8th at the Big Top from 12-4.
           - It will include a silent auction of new items and a yard sale of gently used items.  All proceeds will go to the team.  Any items that don't sell will be returned to the seller, or if you desire, the organizers will dispose of them.
They actually are hoping that our members might donate some items, either for the yard sale or the auction.  While I'm not advocating for them, I do ask that you forward this information to your members, especially the racers and others scheduled to go on that trip.  It could be a good way to get some things out of your closets, while helping a good cause - young racers.  After all, kids are skiing's future.  If you have any questions, you can contact Stephanie Johnston, at sajpico@hotmail.com.

That's it for February's update.  I'm going skiing this weekend;  I hope you are also.
