As usual, the Steamboat trip was a huge success. One of the final events at Steamboat is Friday's races. This year the "Hot Man / Hot Woman on the Hill" were Justin Laing (Asheville) and Elizabeth Beadle (GSOC). Anyone wishing to peruse all of the results can do so at NASTAR's web site. Just go to "Check Race Results, View Resort Race Results, Steamboat" and look for the Crescent races. Much thanks to John Casey, Ron Scott, and Steamboat's staff for working diligently to provide another fantastic and memorable experience.
The Whitefish, Montana trip, currently with 134 participants, gets underway on January 16th. If anyone in your club has a desire to join the fun, Sara (Ford) Clemons at Sports America Tours needs to be contacted immediately (TEL: 800-876-8551 ext. 109, sara@sportsamerica.com). She may have a couple of open slots left.
CONVENTIONS
The Spring Convention will be held at Kingston Plantation, North Myrtle Beach, SC, April 22 - 25, 2010. Club registration and lodging forms are under Conventions on CSC's web site. Requests are still coming in for Brighton Towers, and Michelle Shuford, Conventions Chair, is maintaining a waiting list for those accommodations. Please be sure to get your confirmation and deposit forms in by the deadlines.
RACING
The December 19 - 20 races at Appalachian were canceled due to the major snowstorm that passed through the southeast that week. A few of the 146 Crescent racers who were registered made it to the various slopes in the Boone area to enjoy GREAT skiing. Everyone is anxiously waiting for the January 9th and 10th races at Sugar Mountain . Race training and gate time will be available at Appalachian on Friday, January 8th.Please remember to include the newsletter credit sheets in your newsletter so your club's ski and race participants are eligible for prizes. I encourage your members to participate. You don't have to be a great skier to be a racer; heck, I raced in Division 2 for many years. Through racing, my skiing improved tremendously (It's amazing how you learn to turn when there are a series of gates, in a variety of snow conditions, staring you in the face!), and I made many wonderful friends. Your members should give it a try; they may be pleasantly surprised. Talk with your club's race director or contact Ron Scott, Race Chair, at rscott013@nc.rr.com.
MEMBER SERVICES
Ken Lumsden, Member Services Chair, has enlisted Linda Fields (GSOC) and Chuck Young (Raleigh) to take pictures during CSC's race season. Thanks to both of them for undertaking this important function. I continue to get delivery failure messages when the Update is sent. Crescent does practically all of its communications via email, and in order for your club to be informed, it's critical that the database contains up-to-date information. Please be sure to send ALL officer and committee chair changes, including changes to their email addresses, to Bruce McMurray, at snowdawgasoc@bellsouth.net.
ADMINISTRATIVE
Per Crescent's bylaws, yearly membership dues are payable no later than December 31, 2009. Rod Davis, CSC Treasurer, has informed me, however, that numerous clubs have advised him that they didn't get the invoice. Rod is issuing the invoice again, and the deadline for payment is being extended to January 31, 2010. (I know this violates the bylaws, but sometimes we just have to make common sense adjustments.) If you haven't received the electronic invoice by January 4th, please advise Rod at rod.davis@nc.rr.com and copy me. Thanks. Bruce sends me the latest information in the database every month just before I issue the President's Update. If I have sent this update to individuals who no longer are your club's reps or president, please forward it to the appropriate persons and make sure that Bruce is provided with the correct names and their current email addresses.
