YALA Nomination Instructions Overview

NOMINEE’S NAME SHOULD APPEAR ON THE IDENTIFICATION PAGE ONLY. To insure objectivity, judges will receive all sheets of the nomination coded to the identification page and without the nominee’s name. This identification page will remain with the YALA Committee Chair and be used to cross-reference the nominations.

INCOMPLETE NOMINATIONS WILL BE RULED INELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION. Please be sure that all information is fully completed. Nomination information will be copied for judges, so please type or write clearly in black ink.

NOMINATIONS WILL INCLUDE: (1.) An identification page, (2.) a separate narrative (two page maximum) providing the information outlined, (3.) two letters of recommendation, (4.) a one page letter from the nominee outlining their personal and professional goals and how Women’s Forum members could serve as mentors, and (5.) a one page resume from the nominee.
The nominee’s name should not appear on the narrative, letters of recommendation, nominee letter, or resume.

YALA Nomination Details

1. Identification Page

The application is available as a PDF file and includes the form for the identification page. The identification page is also available as a Microsoft Word document that can be downloaded, filled in, and printed.

2. Narrative

Use no more than two pages to provide the information requested below. Judges use a point rating system; therefore, each item should be answered separately. Please be as brief and concise as possible Nominations having more than 2 pages of narrative will be disqualified. Reminder: DO NOT USE YOUR NOMINEE’S NAME IN THE NARRATIVE.

  1. Briefly describe why your nominee should receive the Young Adult Leadership Award.
  2. Give at least one example for each item below to explain how your nominee has demonstrated:
    1. Effective leadership
    2. Risk-taking and / or non-traditional activities
    3. Networking for women’s issues and / or helping to provide opportunities for females
    4. Excellence in performance
    5. Potential for future achievement
  3. Was the nominee’s leadership / accomplishments due to involvement as a student, employee or volunteer?

3. Recommendations

A one-page letter of recommendation from two people familiar with the Nominee’s leadership and achievements. (Advise them to omit their nominee’s name in the letter. The nominator should solicit the recommendations and submit them as a part of the nomination packet.)

4. One page letter from the nominee

This letter should state personal and professional goals and how Women’s Forum members, serving as mentors, could help them achieve these goals.

5. Resume

This should be one page and should not include the name of the nominee.

Please use Microsoft Word format for the attachments or contact Mary for alternatives. BE SURE that the nominee's name does not appear in any of the documents except for the information sheet.
