Other Christian Education options for adults
On the first Sunday of each month, adult Sunday school hour is reserved for fellowship time and no Adult Forum is scheduled. On these Sunday’s children’s classes continue to be held.
This webpage is based on a brochure designed to give you information about all of our Christian Education programs. The Church of the Holy Family is committed to the Christian education of our children, teens, and adults. Our Sunday School classes, child-care, Bible studies, and special events are planned with this in mind.
At Holy Family, we see Christian education as a part of the process of forming Christians. Our classes, programs, and special events are designed to help us learn the story of God's people and how we are participants in that continuing story. We believe participation in the worship life of the church is central to our spiritual growth and sacramental understanding. In his book Bringing up Children in the Christian Faith, John Westerhoff makes four recommendations: "that we tell and retell God's story as found in the Scriptures until it becomes our common personal story; that we participate in liturgy and share Eucharist together; that we listen to and talk to each other about our experiences and relationship with God; and that we practice performing faithful acts of ministry together." These recommendations help shape what we do with children and adults here. Please join us, and call if you have questions or suggestions.

The Christian Education Commission meets the first Monday of each month at 7:30 pm at the church.
The Adult Forum meets in the
Undercroft. Various speakers will make presentations on matters of theology,
discipleship, and Christian living. Drop-ins are
welcome in this class.
Women and Faith meets in the "parlor" side of the Library. Class leaders are Carol Uphoff and Toni Thomas-Feren. This class offers the opportunity to grow in faith individually and as a group. They will hear from both lay and clergy women about issues that affect them as Christian women every day. The class will work to deepen their faith, to grow as Christian women through sharing stories, to listen to other Christian women, and to live and practice together Advent and Lenten seasons.
The Adult Lectionary Bible Study meets in the conference room every Sunday at 9:00 AM (downstairs, at the end of the hall in the administrative offices). This class discusses the lectionary readings that we read in church and hear sermons about each Sunday. Please prepare using our class materials: read the lessons and answer a few questions. Materials for Easter Sunday through the Third Sunday of Easter (23 March-6 April) are here. Materials for the Fourth to the Seventh Sundays of Easter (13 April- 4 May) can be found are here. For more information, please contact Fritz Gugelmann (838-6759) or Mary Lou Melville (933-3630).
Other Christian Education options for adults
For adults who are occupied with youth Christian Education or Choir during the Christian Education hour, there are offerings at other times during the week. For additional details, see the links for these groups from the main CHF home page, under Groups in the Church.
A Bible Study group meets in the Library on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am. This group studies books of the Bible rather than following the lectionary. They are led by volunteer discussion leaders. For more information, contact Barbara Russell (403-1249).
Education for Ministry (EFM), a program of study by extension from the University of the South, meets at Holy Family as well. For more information, contact Patti Thorp (932-9274).
Journey in Faith is yet another offering for adults. This is a year-long process in which participants learn about Christianity, the Episcopal Church, and Holy Family. For many, but not all, this process will end in baptism, confirmation, or reaffirmation, while others may not make a public declaration of faith. Each is paired with a parishioner who acts as a companion in this process. This group meets on Sunday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Childcare is provided. For more information, contact Bobbie Armstrong, Linda McDonough, or the Rector.
