S.T.E.A.D.—Suzuki Talent Education at Durham, NC—is a collective of four violin teachers and Suzuki families who live in the Durham/Research Triangle Park (RTP) area of North Carolina. Our primary purpose is to enrich the musical lives of young musicians through group lessons, workshops, master classes and performances. We share Dr. Shinichi Suzuki's desire of creating a nurturing environment for children to develop their unlimited potentials. In so doing, we hope that they will become excellent and confident players.

S.T.E.A.D. was organized in the 1984 by Karen McDougall, an enthusiastic violin teacher making her home in Durham. Gathering in her basement for weekly lessons, students blossomed under her tutelage. As new teachers arrived in town, Karen welcomed them into the music community which grew by word of mouth. She has been a mentor for young teachers, taught a myriad of successful students and inspired many.
