Greg and the Group, 

I thank that a watchful eye to the weather is a good idea use the Public Safety model to scene safety priority:
1) Me 
2) my Crew 
3) everybody else.   
If you  are the person coordinating,  the HAM or communication section  you have to keep an eye out for anything that may be a hazard ie: weather, traffic, crowds.  I  keep another radio or the other side of a dual band radio to monitor NWS weather radio it's not radar but they do a great job of telling the storm direction and severity.
