About Triangle PFLAG

What is PFLAG?
PFLAG is an all volunteer, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping parents and their gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning (lgbtq) children understand each other.

Although many members of PFLAG are parents of lgbtq sons and daughters, other relatives, friends, straight spouses and lgbtq individuals are also active members of PFLAG. The group is not formally affiliated with any religious, ethnic, or political group. Everyone is welcome and all meetings are held in strict confidence.

Founded in 1981, PFLAG has become one of the most respected and effective grassroots organizations in the United States. Today, PFLAG represents more than 80,000 families - and speaks for countless others - concerned about society's attitudes toward their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender loved ones. At the same time it offers opportunities for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity. PFLAG works tirelessly to change public policies and affect attitudes in order to create a tolerant, healthy society that is respectful of diversity.

What is the Purpose of PFLAG?
* To offer comfort and encouragement.
* To provide a support system.
* To offer support and understanding to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of all ages.
* To educate and inform families and the community.
* To support the civil rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender persons.
* To speak out and act whenever necessary.
* To solicit the support and recognition by society as to the full human needs and entitlements of all persons.

Our Mission
Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families, and friends through: Support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
