Supporting - Educating - Advocating What is PFLAG? PFLAG is an all volunteer, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping parents and their gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning (lgbtq) children understand each other. Although many members of PFLAG are parents of lgbtq sons and daughters, other relatives, friends, straight spouses and lgbtq individuals are also active members of PFLAG. The group is not formally affiliated with any religious, ethnic, or political group. Everyone is welcome and all meetings are held in strict confidence. Founded in 1981, PFLAG has become one of the most respected and effective grassroots organizations in the United States. Today, PFLAG represents more than 80,000 families - and speaks for countless others - concerned about society's attitudes toward their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender loved ones. At the same time it offers opportunities for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity. PFLAG works tirelessly to change public policies and affect attitudes in order to create a tolerant, healthy society that is respectful of diversity. What is the Purpose of PFLAG?
