2007 PFLAG SIGNATURE AD
The Triangle Chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will once again publish a Signature Ad in the Independent Weekly in 2007. Our goal is to show that people across the Triangle support gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (GLBT) people. Furthermore, by highlighting religious groups in the area, we hope to show that people of all faiths affirm and support the LGBT community. We invite you to join us in this important effort. Last year over 300 individuals and families participated in the signature ad.

Our message is simple: “We, the undersigned, affirm the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people. We condemn acts of bigotry and hatred. We join PFLAG in celebrating the lives of those we love and admire. Acceptance and love…family values for a lifetime.” We hope that the 2007 ad will be our most successful yet!

To send a powerful message that people of all faiths support LGBT people, signatures will be organized by religious denomination with individual congregations, followed by other organizations, and then unaffiliated individuals. In addition, this year we invite Triangle businesses to join us in support of the LGBT community; businesses will be listed in a separate section following other organizations. To help us fulfill our mission of support, education, and advocacy on behalf of our LBGT loved ones, we request a donation of $15 per individual/family or organization and $30 per business.

We hope you will join us in this important effort. The signature ad will be published in the Independent Weekly in September 2007. Therefore, we need to receive completed forms from you by August 15, 2007. We thank you for supporting PFLAG-Triangle and our LGBT loved ones; if you have any questions please do not hesitate to e-mail us.

TRIANGLE PFLAG advocates to end discrimination and secure equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people. We seek to affirm the lives of lgbt people by advocating for policy changes at the national, state, and local levels of government and in other institutions. Affirming lgbt people does not mean that we "promote homosexuality." Instead, through our advocacy work, PFLAG seeks to affirm that lgbt people represent a valuable part of human diversity and enrich our society in many ways. WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO "AFFIRM" VERSUS "PROMOTE"?

AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE
Following the lead of our parent organization, PFLAG TRIANGLE works to improve school climate. "From Our House to the School House", PFLAG TRIANGLE works for enlightened policies to address the needs and realities of LGBT youth, school employees and families. PFLAG TRIANGLE is concerned about the safety and learning environment of all students, including those straight students who are perceived to be gay.

PFlag Triangle's work "from our house to the schoolhouse" includes:
