The North Carolina Peace Corps Association "Bringing the World Back Home"
2010 Africa Night
Each year, the NCPCA hosts a major fund raising event. Africa Night raises funds for sustainable development projects in Africa. Most of the projects we choose support the Peace Corps Partnership program.
In 2010, the NCPCA has selected a project by a volunteer from North Caroline serving in Morocco.
This project is designed to improve and expand the farming capacity of a rural Moroccan village by improving the existing irrigation network. Currently most of the irrigation network used to provide water to the apple orchards are constructed of packed earth channels. These channels leak badly and waste a large portion of the water that is intended for these profitable trees. When this project is successfully executed these channels will instead be constructed of cement. This will allow the residents of the village to expand apple production, bring more money to the village and their families, and open up the possibility of higher education for their children.
