Electoral Freedom ActThe League of NC is interested in improving democracy by increasing ballot access by all parties and candidates. The Electoral Freedom Act, HB-32, in the 2011 General Assembly, proposes to greatly improve ballot access for independent parties and unaffiliated candidates. The League opposes legislation to require voter ID at the polls.LWV Charlotte Mecklenburg sent a letter to the Charlotte Observer in opposition to the proposed voter ID legislation. We understand that the legislature is planning to move ahead with this legislation. Now is a good time for interested Local Leagues to be getting articles into their newspapers. In 2009 LWV began the concurrence process with Leagues throughout the country. Read more . . . Campaign ReformWhat’s happening now? Working closely with a coalition of groups interested in campaign reform, we continue to advance legislation that provides for freer elections. North Carolina Voters for Clean Elections has produced a Legislative Scorecard every year since 2006, showing how legislators across the state voted on campaign reform bills.
