Oral History Project

From their unique perspective as leaders in Cary's historic preservation, the Friends of the Page-Walker Hotel have launched an oral history program. The purpose of the project is to interview and record the stories of many longtime Cary citizens.

Recognizing the significance of these efforts, as well as the expertise of the Friends' Oral History Program execution, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Wilson Library has archived and made available the first 29 interviews. The interviews may be found under the Cary subheading of the Southern Oral History Program (fourth floor) at the Wilson Library. Interested individuals are welcome at the library Monday through Friday (8am to 5 pm) and Saturday (9am to 1pm). For more information contact the library by phone (919)962-1345 or by e-mail. To search by subject or connect to links including Duke and Documented American South, visit the library's website. Transcripts of the Cary interviews and others are $0.25 per page and $5.00 per tape.

Serious historians wishing to become involved in the program may learn more about the implementation of the Friends' Oral History Project by contacting Peggy Van Scoyoc.
