Regular Monthly Meeting
April 1, 2004

1. Treasurer's Report

Pam Campa reported that the DPNA has $3,487 in its account.

2. Brochure Update

Rob Dilworth stated that Chris Crochetiere is designing the DPNA brochure and that she hopes to complete the art preparation and the layout within the next couple of weeks. Rob will prepare a paper-and-printing budget after proofs of the brochure have been created.

3. Committee Updates

Welcome Committee. Carol Donin said that she would become the chair of the Welcome Committee and is working on the welcome packet. She asked Barry Ragin to put standing copy in the newsletter, informing neighbors that she can be contacted about new residents in Duke Park.

Traffic Committee. Peg Lanier reported that she had contacted the city about the Roxboro-Mangum interchange and that she had successfully gotten the city to put up a no-left-turn sign, but she would like the city to do something that's more effective.

4. Durham CAN (Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods)

Daniel Kirk provided some background information on Durham CAN and said that he would some time investigating the organization. He may try to catalyze some interest in Duke Park.

5. Various

Junior League Project. Nancy McNabb discussed the Junior League's Inaugural Designer Showhouse, which is Whitehall Terrace (also known as the Wright Mansion) at 105 W. Knox St. The house will be open to the public from April 24 to May 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at http://www.jlshowhouse.com, through members of the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties (such as Nancy), or by calling 919-682-8999.

Web site. Barry Ragin reported that Claire Doyle needs help with the maintenance and updating of the DPNA's Web site. He estimates that the volunteer assistance would require 4-8 hours of work per month.

Tree Funding. A group in Durham is proposing that the city put $15K in its budget for tree replacement. The Board passed a motion in support of this proposal.

Speaker. John Compton will speak at an upcoming DPNA meeting about the Historic Preservation Society of Durham.
