Hi Everyone! Mother Nature and Ullr can't seem to decide upon the weather. We keep swinging from bitterly cold and snowy to unseasonably warm and back again to snow. It snowed in West Virginia this weekend, and once again it's really cold. By Tuesday, however, it's supposed to be in the 40's! I just hope we have sufficient snow that everyone can keep skiing for at least another six or seven weeks. As for CSC activities................
TRIPS
Crescent sent 134 members to Whitefish, Montana, and it was fabulous! The mountain was in great shape, at times the views were incredible, and the various events were excellent. The staffs at the Grouse Lodge in Whitefish and on the mountain did an amazing job. The apres-ski party on the mountain Monday was top-notch, and the barbeque picnic was great! Although the race staff initially didn't understand what a "Fun Race" was intended to be, they quickly overhauled the race course and created a really funny race; think circling butterflies, dizzy bat spin, and then saluting the US flag and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before staggering through the crescent moon finish (check CSC's web site for the moon). The Thursday night awards dinner was fun (excellent food, awards and door prizes, and dancing). Actually, there was every type of dancing imaginable: line dances, disco, caberet, congo (led by yours truly), two-step, swing, and the new Korbel dance. You'll have to ask Larry Hendrix of Greater Charleston or Ed Weis of Kanawha about that! The side trip to Fernie was fun, and Customs wasn't too bad, but it did take a lot longer to get back into the US than to leave it! Members also partook of many other activities, including dogsledding, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing in Glacier National Park. Sara, of Sports America, Lisa Beregi, and the clubs' trip leaders did a great job. Be sure to thank them.
CONVENTIONS
The Spring Convention will be held at Kingston Plantation, North Myrtle Beach, SC, April 22 - 25, 2010. Club registration and lodging forms are under Conventions on CSC's web site. Requests are still coming in for Brighton Towers, and Michelle Shuford, Conventions Chair, is maintaining a waiting list for those accommodations. Please be sure to get your confirmation and deposit forms in by the deadlines. Mark the dates on your calendar and think warm, sunny beach while you ski down cold, sunny slopes! We would really like to have more people attend the convention and simply enjoy a long weekend with friends!
RACING
As I commented earlier, Mother Nature just isn't cooperating. Two race weekends have been canceled this year due to TOO MUCH snow or the threat of bad snow conditions. The latest cancellation was this weekend at Appalachian.Ron Scott, CSC's race director, advises that several clubs haven't paid their racing dues for this season. Please get those payments to Ron ASAP. If your club is in arrears at the Spring Convention, your reps aren't allowed to vote at the BOD meeting.Be sure to include the race sponsor sheets in your newsletters so your members can participate in the door prizes at race weekends.
MEMBER SERVICES
Please remember to send all changes in your officers and committee chairs, as well as any changes in email addresses, to Bruce McMurray, CSC's database coordinator.
ADMINISTRATIVE
Payment of yearly membership dues was extended to January 31, 2010. If your club hasn't paid yet, please mail your payment to Rod Davis, CSC Treasurer, ASAP. His address is in the fall directory. If you haven't received the electronic invoice, please advise Rod and me ASAP. Thanks. Please remember to distribute this update to your members: it is important for clubs' members to have access to these updates so they have a better understanding of what actually transpires in an organization as large and diverse as Crescent. I encourage all of you to have the updates posted on your club's web site or emailed to all of your members routinely.
That's it for now. Enjoy the winter weather and have fun skiing!
