Hello Everyone!

Fall is definitely approaching in West Virginia;  the temperature last night in Charleston dropped to 50 degrees, and it is supposed to be cooler tonight.  With a little luck, the south will have an early fall and lots of snow this year!  There isn't much new to report so this update basically serves as a reminder of Crescent's upcoming activities.  If it sounds familiar, that is because I'm repeating parts of the July update.  Under Administrative, however, there is a request for some information.  Please respond.

CONVENTIONS

Fall Conference is rapidly approaching!  October 23-25, 2009 should be peak leaf season in the Great Smokies, and you will be hard pressed to find a room rate cheaper than the one provided to Crescent!  Knoxville Ski Club and Crescent are planning a great weekend of fun...both learning and playing;  so plan on sending more than just your reps to this great weekend in the Great Smokies.  You can download registration information at www.crescentskicouncil.org.

TRIPS

Registrations are underway for both Crescent ski trips.  Race and Ski Camp is at Steamboat from December 5 - 12, 2009.  Crescent's other major trip is to Whitefish, Montana from January 16-23, 2010 and includes a day trip to Fernie in Canada.  You must have a passport to travel between the United States and Canada so make sure you have one.  You don't want to miss the fun!  Information regarding both trips is on Crescent's web site.

Make sure your Trips chair attends the Fall Conference so your club can hear the presentations from the tour operators/resorts on the short list for 2011.  The short lists are:  January - Taos and Telluride;  March - Sun Valley and Ogden, Utah (Snow Basin, Powder Mountain, etc.).  Talk with your club members and determine where they want to go in 2011 so you can vote accordingly at the Trips Committee meeting.

RACING

Crescent members are continuing to take advantage of the Subaru VIP program.  At least two members of Kanawha, the ski club to which I belong, bought Subarus in August through the VIP program during the Cash to Clunkers promotion.  Please be sure to advise your members of this program.  It's an excellent opportunity to purchase a great vehicle at a great price!

MEMBER SERVICES
Crescent will prepare the yearly directory soon so it can be distributed at the Fall Conference.   Some information in last year's directory was incorrect because clubs didn't provide their changes in officers, chairs, and other positions to Bruce McMurray, Crescent's database administrator.  PLEASE advise Bruce of any changes.  His address is snowdawgasoc@bellsouth.net,  If you're not sure what's been submitted to Bruce this year, email him and ask for a current listing.  He will send it to you.

ADMINISTRATIVE

Margaret Crum and I learned a lot at the NSCF annual meeting, and we will be sharing information with you at the Fall Conference.  One of the presentations was by an agent for the insurance company that provides coverage for the Far West Ski Association, which is a member of NSCF.  We all know the clubs and Crescent need insurance coverage, but cost is an obstacle.  Cost was discussed in general terms, and he offered to price a general liability policy if I can provide the number of members in each club in Crescent.  I would like to have this done before the conference so we can review the pricing that weekend.  I'm asking each club to send me, by September 15th, its average membership over the past five years and to provide the split between adults (18 and older) and children.  I'll forward the data to the agent and provide his response at the Administrative workshop during the conference.  Thanks in advance for your responses.

That's it for this month.  Have a great Labor Day weekend and start thinking seriously about snow and skiing!
