Diocesan Committee for Environmental Ministry
(A one day workshop for middle school
and high school youth and adults to explore the beauty of God's
creation
and learn how we can protect and care for it)

Spiritual Leader: The Rt. Rev. Gary
Gloster, Assisting Bishop of North Carolina
Adult Program Leaders:
Frank A. DePasquale - Architect, AIA
Emeritus, and member of St. Luke's, Durham, author of the new
practical manual, Caring for Creation: A Manual to Save
Humanity. Frank will speak about the necessity for Christians
to assume responsibility for God's gift of this precious earth
we have been given and present means of implementation in our
parishes and homes.
Robert Ward - Pulitzer Prize winner
in music for his opera, The Crucible, named to the American Academy
for Arts and Letters. Robert will lead a workshop linking our care
of creation with the inspiration of the arts.
Youth Program Leaders:
Dan Besse - Winston-Salem City Council member and attorney.
Dan's workshop will explore issues like global warming, clean
air, and clean water, and provide ways individuals can affect
environmental policy at the local, state, and national levels.
Katelyn Deaton - one of triplets
born in July of 1989, Katelyn has grown into an exuberant,
eccentric young adult. Her interests are chess, art, guitar, water
skiing, the environment, and rock music of the sixties. She
conducted a Girl Scout Gold Award project educating her church in
ways to become more environmentally conscious. Katelyn will share
her experiences and provide youth with specific ways to become more
involved in environmental education in their communities.
Musicians:
Jimmy Stowers - guitarist and member
of All Saints Episcopal Church, Greensboro, has previously worked
as an environmental scientist performing assessments and wetland
delineations.
Carl Laurent - guitarist and member
of All Saint's Episcopal Church, Greensboro, is an engineer by
profession. His three children have all been involved in diocesan
youth conferences at the Summit.
HARP: Outdoor Program leaders:
The Haw River Program (HARP) is a
year-round environmental education effort, reaching out to schools
from Texas to
Rockingham county. HARP staff members will give us experiential
learning of this wetland area north of Greensboro, both in the
classroom and in the field.
Registration
Cost: $25.00/person in advance by May 15,
with a maximum $75.00/family or $30.00/person on the day of the
event.
Registration covers lunch and materials.
Some scholarships are available.
