Children and Holy Week
Gretchen Jordan, Director of Christian Education
There are several things to note about children, their
participation in worship, special opportunities and resources for
parents on death, the crucifixion, and the
resurrection.
For increased safety and security of our Children's Chapel
participants, the Chapel leaders will have their own special
procession on both Palm Sunday and Easter, using palm branches on
Palm Sunday and fresh flowers on Easter. Children's Chapel will
have its own mesh cross to fill.
If you want your child to process at the 9:00 service in the
church, you must accompany them and then take them to
Children's Chapel and register them with Miss
Joy.
School age children can gather in the courtyard for the 9:00
processions on both Sundays. Parents should save a seat for them in
the church so that they can join them after the
procession.
During Holy Week, our parish has joined eight other area
churches to offer a labyrinth walk. The labyrinth will again lie on
the floor of Binkley Baptist Church near University Mall. On
Sunday, April 9, between 5:00 and 7:00, youth of the churches have
a reserved time to walk with their peers. Our EYC and Youth
Inquirers' Class will be participating in this but other youth
not in either of these programs are invited to stop by for a
prayerful walk. On Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 - 6:00 the labyrinth
is reserved for children. Gretchen Jordan will be offering short
orientations at Binkley at 4:00 and again at 5:00 for the
children.
Many parents struggle with how much emphasis to put on the Holy
Week story. Helpful printed articles are available from Gretchen
Jordan on this topic. Copies will be on the display table outside
her office.
Send
items for inclusion in future "Cross Roads."
The deadline is the first Thursday of the preceeding month.
