The CHAOS Email List - chaos-l

CHAOS maintains an email list for the convenience of its members and other interested individuals. The purpose of the list is to simplify communication among members concerning club business and astronomical topics of general interest. The list is hosted by RTPNet, an organization that provides web and other internet services at a discounted price to non-profit organizations in the Research Triangle Park, NC area.

Chaos-l is a fairly low volume list but it can become moderately busy at times (near the election of officers or when there is an astronomically significant event in the offiing). Even at its busiest, however, the number of posts almost never exceeds 15 per day and usually for no more than a few days at a time. Those familiar with special interest email lists realize that this is a very low volume. Email lists with up to 200 posts per day are not at all unusual. If the volume of traffic bothers you, please keep in mind that it will most likely quiet down in a couple of days. You are also not obligated to read every post. Look at the subject lines and simply delete those messages that are of no interest.

NOTE: Chaos-l is configured so that replies are sent to the list rather than to the person who originated the message. This means that if you intend to reply to an individual rather than the list, you will have to manually edit the TO: line of your email client. Keep this in mind when sending replies if you have something to say intended for an individual and not the whole list.

    Please note - The l in chaos-l is a lowercase L not the number 1.

    The CHAOS email list accepts posts only from subscribed email addresses. This means that if you are subscribed with your home email address, you cannot post messages from your work email account unless you also subscribe that account.

    4. If you are a member of the list you can obtain a list of other members at the above web site (member password required).

    5. If you have questions about subscribing or unsubscribing, or other questions about chaos-l, please send them directly to the list owner. Sending such questions to the list only clutters the list with off-topic traffic and doesn't get your question answered any faster.
