Permission for the Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society
(CHAOS) to use the Currin farm viewing site for astronomical viewing
events
January 11, 2005 - Permission given by Tim and Brenda Currin
Members of CHAOS may use the Currin farm viewing site in northern
Granville County to set up telescopes and observe the night skies
under the following conditions:
Definitions:
- 'Member' - any current, active, dues-paying member of CHAOS
- 'Guest' - any non-member riding in the same car with a member
- 'Club contact person' - any club member who has been referred to us by
the acting president of CHAOS and has given us a card or paper with
their name, phone number, address, and email address.
- 'Club event' - any time that CHAOS club members visit the Currin
farm. At least one club contact person must accompany the group at
every club event.
-
All liability for any damage or injury during any club event
belongs to CHAOS or to the individual visitor. CHAOS will maintain an
insurance policy to cover any damages or injury to any individual
visiting the Currin farm under these provisions. CHAOS will be
responsible for obtaining appropriate waivers of liability from
members and guests.
- Tim, Brenda, Arthur, and/or Marie Currin are not liable for any
damage or injury incurred at the Currin farm even if conditions on
the farm are somehow deemed unsafe. All visits are at your own
risk.
- Members and guests have permission to use the viewing site on the
Currin farm during any club event. A club contact person must
accompany the group and must notify us by phone message at least 24
hours in advance whenever plans are being made for an event. Small
groups (up to three people) only need to give four hours notice.
- Very infrequently we might have plans that would involve lights
being on in the yard area. CHAOS visitors may avoid any possible
conflict with our plans by speaking with us in person before
coming.
- CHAOS visitors should leave the viewing site clean and
undisturbed. If the ground is saturated from lots of recent rain,
please do not drive off the gravel. The gravel ends at the north
end of the big shed building. When in doubt, please check with Tim
about the condition of the ground.
- Any visitor who does not meet these conditions does not have
permission to be on the Currin farm and would be considered a
trespasser.
- This permission may be revoked at any time for any reason by simple
written, email, or telephone notice from any of the Currins to any
officer of the club.
We enjoy your visits and hope to be able to share these dark skies
with you for a long time. The purpose of this permission is to remove
any potential risk of liability or financial responsibility from us,
the landowners. Best wishes, and we hope to 'see' you soon!
I acknowledge that I have read the above conditions and accept them as
a condition observing at this site.
