Note: The by-laws to the constitution should cover in detail such subjects as: the duties of the officers; the conduct of elections and voting procedures; the amount and method of assessment of dues; the conditions for impeachment of officers or members; and provision for their amendment.


Article I: Officers The duties of the officers of the society shall consist of:

President - The President is responsible for calling meeting of the general membership and arranging location and times so that such meetings may be held. The President is also responsible for carrying out the mandates of the general membership and for arbitrating any disputes between groups and committees within the organization.

Vice President - The Vice President is responsible for assisting the President and for taking over all duties of the President in the canse that he or she may be unable to perform his or her duties.

Secretary - The Secretary is responsible for keeping and posting the minutes of the general membership and for maintaining the knowledge database that the members have provided to the Society so that the membership has access to the information. The Secretary is also responsible for the maintenance of the Constitution and its By-Laws.

Treasurer - The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining accounts, keeping records of all payments into and withdrawals from said accounts, and for the dispersement of funds. The Treasurer shall supply information to the Secretary on which members are current and which owe dues, but shall also keep a database of such information.

Article II: Membership
Dues and Requirements
All members are required to pay a $10 membership fee per semester, or $25 per year (including summer). Until they do so, they are designated "Temporary Members" and will be removed from the mailing list and barred from use of Society equipment one month after first signing up as a prospective member of the Society for the year. At any time later, they may pay the dues, at which point they will be granted full membership. These conditions will be in effect until the annual dues are paid.

Article III: Elections
and Voting Procedures
Elections will be held during the month of April each year. Control of each office will be turned over to the newly elected officers at the first meeting during the month of May of that same year. Officers-elect whall have no power of decision until that first meeting in May of that year.

Officers are elected by a majority of dues-paying members. Should none of the candidates for a particular office obtain the base majority of votes out of the dues-paying member electorate, a run-off election shall be held between the two candidates for that office with the most votes obtained in that first election.

There is no limit to the number of terms a person can serve as an officer. The election is to be conducted by an Elections Committee Chairperson who shall be voted into that position by a majority of members. The voting slips or email-ballots may be inspected by the general membership if a member makes such a request.

Article IV: Impeachment Impeachment of officers may be carried through with a 3/4 vote of the full membership. Impeachment calls for the immediate removal of the officer from his or her position and a call for new elections for that position. The newly elected officer is empowered only through the next normal election date.

Article V: Amendments
and Code of Conduct
The By-Laws of the society may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the full membership, to be taken not earlier than the second regular meeting to follow the submission of proposed amendments.

All members of CHAOS agree to treat Society equipment and the equipment of members with the proper respect. Any intentional damage done to equipment that belongs to the Society or another member, also including loaned equipment, will result in immediate irrevocable expulsion from the Society and a fine equal to the cost of repair or replacement of the equipment.

Article VI: Committees A. Standing Committees: Standing committees are permanent committees of the organization. Standing committees are created by majority vote of the membership on recommendation of the Executive Committee. Membership shall consist of three or more regular Club members appointed by the Executive Committee for a term of one year. There is no limit to the number of terms a member may serve. No officer shall be a member of a standing committee, except that the President shall be an ex officio member of all standing committees.

B. Ad Hoc Committees: Ad Hoc committees are created on the suggestion of the Executive Committee or the general membership for specific short-term projects or needs of the organization. Membership shall consist of two or more regular Club members, as neede, for the tern of the specific project.
